National Race Report
Round 6 – Chesterfield

Braintree riders again travelled north on Sunday for round 6 of the National BMX series in picturesque Chesterfield and with the season half way through the competition was beginning to get fierce and fast.

Braintree’s youngest National rider is 6 year old Tom Stokes and he rode extremely well in his moto’s going easily into the A final where he finished eighth. The expert nines saw George Moret and Josh Legrove fighting for a place in the semi final, both achieving that easily following good moto results. With a top four place required to progress further they needed to put the work in and George qualified for the A final where he finished seventh. Josh made through to the B final where he finished sixth.

In the expert ten’s Lee Golder had a stunning day with excellent moto results sending him into the A final with ease. Jonathan Boreham, a newcomer to racing at this level, went into the B final where he finished eighth. In the huge combined class of thirteen’s and fourteen’s Riess Harper started the day in style winning his first two moto’s. So he went easily into the quarter finals and despite crossing the line in second was controversially placed last for cutting the track and therefore sent for the depressing early bath.

The expert fifteen/sixteen class saw Will Elsey, Tom Elvin and Oliver Cutmore fighting through their moto’s for a place in the semi-final. Both Tom and Will went easily into the semi with Will finishing second and Tom fourth and therefore progressing to the A final where Will stole the show and finished second, his best national result thus far and Tom came in seventh. Oliver missed out on the semi, going out in the moto’s.

The very competitive junior men saw Bradley Watts at one of his favourite tracks taking excellent moto results going easily into the semi. They’re being no such thing as an easy semi final he had his work cut out and crossed the line in third. So into the A final where a close fought battle saw him finish third.

Representing Braintree in the female contingency Nicola Reed took part in the junior female class and winning one of her moto’s went through to the A final with ease where a close tussle saw her finish eighth.

The cruiser riders were out in force with Ryan East making the transition from expert to cruiser for the first time this weekend and showing excellent form in his moto’s with top three results which saw him into the A final where he finished eighth. Just ahead of Ryan in seventh was the only rider in two classes, Oliver Cutmore. In the slightly older class of 16 – 29 riders Lee East also rode well and into the A final where he finished seventh with Jason Clarke close on his tail in eighth.

The next national round is in sunny Hartlepool on 29th June however Braintree BMX club are racing every Wednesday evening from 7pm. For more information please call 01376 346523 or visit www.braintreebmx.co.uk
