Braintree BMX Club
National Race Report
Round 11 and 12
Coppull, Lancashire
13/14 September 2008

Rounds 10 and 11 of the National BMX Series took place in Coppull in Lancashire at the weekend and fifteen of Braintree’s top riders travelled north to take part and with only three rounds to go they were fighting for every point.

The youngest of these riders was Tom Stokes who rode in the six and under class. He had an excellent day He had an excellent day on Saturday with two thirds and a second in his motos, he went into the A final easily where he finished fifth. He started well on Sunday too but an unfortunate crash in his third moto put him into the B final which, unperturbed, he then went on to win.

George Moret and Josh Legrove rode in the expert 9 class and on Saturday both riders rode well in their motos. George went easily into the A final where he finished fifth. An unfortunate fall for Josh in his third moto sent him into the B final where he finished third. Sunday saw them both putting in a really good performance and they went into the B final where George crossed the line in second and Josh in fourth.

In the expert ten class Lee Golder had an excellent start to the weekend with a win in his first moto and following this with two thirds he went into the A final with ease, where he finished sixth. Sunday saw him repeat this performance and again take sixth place in the main final.

There were three Braintree riders in the large and competitive15/16 class – Matt Kirk, Will Elsey and Tom Elvin. Saturday’s racing saw all three riders taking excellent moto results, going easily into the semi finals. Matt took a second and so went into the A final where he also finished second. Will and Tom went into the B final where Will took the win with style and Tom crossed the line in third. Round 11 on Sunday again saw them all through to the semi finals and all three did extremely well ensuring the main A final was dominated by riders from Braintree, so into the very exciting and competitive final saw Matt cross the line in third, with Will in fifth and Tom in sixth.

The junior men saw Bradley Watts taking a rest day on Saturday but taking part in round 11 on Sunday. Good moto results saw him easily into the A final where he finished fifth.

The masters of the sport, 30+, saw Jools Allen and Stu Dixon taking part on both days. The Saturday saw Jools easily into where he finished sixth. Stu found himself in a run off for the A final which he missed out on and so went into the B final finishing fifth. A bad start to Sunday’s racing put Jools into the B final which he won with style and Stu crossed the line just behind in seventh.

The cruiser classes saw Leon Dixon and Ryan East enter the 13 – 15 Grand Prix Class, with Leon finishing sixth over all and Ryan in eighth. The Sunday saw Leon finish in fifth and Ryan in seventh. Lee East rode the 16 – 29 class and finished in ninth place over all on Saturday and eighth on Sunday.

In the 40+ cruiser class John Stockwell showed the way with excellent moto results on Saturday taking him easily into the A final where he finished third. Obviously comfortable in that position he gave an equally good performance on Sunday again finishing third.

Last but not least, was Braintree’s only female rider in the shape of Kelsey Dixon who rode well on both days, finishing sixth in the B final in both these rounds.

The final round of the National series takes place in Preston on 11/12 October. Meanwhile, Braintree BMX Club commence their winter series on October 5th with racing at 1100 – everyone is welcome. For more information visit www.braintreebmx.co.uk.
