Braintree BMX Club Report
The Summer Regional BMX series came to a close on Sunday with the East Anglian Championships held at Royston and Braintree BMX club took the title of winning club on the day with thirty five riders adding to the club's success.
There were three riders in the 6 and under class, which went to semi finals and all three riders went into the semi's. Aaron Bennett was the young star of the day remaining completely unbeaten and taking the East Anglian club title. Charlie O Grady and Tom Stokes both went into the B final with Charlie taking the win, closely followed by Tom in second.
The expert eight class also saw three riders taking part and all finishing in the A final. George Schwedt-Moret finished fourth, with Shane Redgewell on his tail in fifth and Joshua LeGrove finishing eighth after a fall. The expert nines were Lee Golder, Shane Pavitt and Matthew Prior, with Lee leading for most of the day and taking the win overall. Close behind him though was Shane in second, with Matthew in fifth following a fall in his last moto. There was just one rider from Braintree in the ten's - Max Waghorn who had consistent results throughout finishing fifth.
The combined 11/12 class saw Daniel Killingback, a newcomer to regional racing, going through to the B final and winning with style. The 13/14 class was dominated by riders from Braintree with Will Elsey being completely unbeaten all day, taking the largest trophy home. On his tail was Sam Aves who finished in second. Riess Harper was also in this group and finished fourth in the A final. Going into the B final was Leon Dixon, who took the win and Ryan East who finished fifth.
The 15/16 class saw Matt Kirk taking the EA Champ title following a stunning day in which he was completely unbeaten and won himself the coveted rider of the day award, along with the 'holeshot' prize for his age group. Following him across the line was Tom Elvin in seventh.
The top class of the day saw Bradley Watts competing with the elite riders from the region and despite a fall, going through to the A final finishing fourth. The masters of the day (30+) saw Paul Bennett and Stu Dixon battling it out in the A final following tight semi-finals. Paul crossed the line in seventh with Stu in eighth following a fall. Gavin Stokes went into the B final where he finished fifth.
The cruiser classes saw Tom Elvin riding two classes and taking the win easily in the 13 - 15 group. The 16 - 29 class saw James Goodwin taking the win followed by Lee East in second and Jamie Clarke in third. Also, riding two classes were Paul Bennett and Stu Dixon in the 30 - 39 cruiser with Paul finishing second with Stu on his tail in third. The cruiser 40 + class saw Dominic Burnet riding well and finishing in third place overall.
'Doing it for the girls' were Kelsey Dixon, Paige Elvin, Nicola Reed and Natalie Miller. Kelsey rode the 7 - 9 class taking a fantastic overall win and the largest trophy in the group. Paige rode in the 10 - 12 group and finished fourth overall and both Nicola and Natalie rode the 13+ class with varying results throughout the day but Nicola finished second overall and Natalie in fifth.
