Braintree BMX Club – report from the rescheduled Spring Classic

The East Anglian Spring Classic BMX meeting was held on Sunday at Royston after being rescheduled from a very snowy day in March. There was no snow on Sunday however the temperature was very ‘spring’ like for the eighty riders taking part. The youngest of those was six year old Tom Stokes riding in the six and under class and on a winning streak was unbeaten all day and in the expert sevens Braintree again took the win in the shape of Charlie O’Grady.
The expert eights were mixed with the nines and George Moret and Joshua Legrove both had excellent moto results going easily into the A final where George crossed the line in third closely followed by Josh in fourth and Shane Redgewell in sixth. Making his regional debut was Daniel Gilbert who went into the B final which he won with style.
The expert ten’s were dominated by riders from Braintree and Lee Golder continued his winning ways and was completely unbeaten all day. Shane Pavitt was on his back wheel all day finishing second, with Jedd Hurst close behind in third and Jonathan Boreham in fourth. The eleven’s and twelve’s were also combined and Taylor Andrews took part in this class and scored persistent second’s all day.
Christopher Potter, in the expert fourteen’s took home the largest trophy of the day by crossing the line in first, Toby Bearne was on his tail and finished second, with Dexter Addington in fourth and Josh Alford in fifth. The expert male 15 and 16 classes were also combined and Oliver Cutmore had a good day, despite riding two classes he finished fifth and won himself a ‘rider of the day’ trophy. Leon Dixon also rode in this group and finished seventh.
The top class of 17+ riders saw James Goodwin crossing the line in second with Tim Machin finishing in fifth. The Masters rode in this group and Steve Gilbert took the Masters win by finishing seventh in the group, Gavin Stokes came in close behind with Steve Hurst on his tail.
The girls all rode together and Natalie Miller took the win after being completely unbeaten in all races. The younger riders Paige Elvin and Kelsey Dixon followed her in second and third respectively.
The cruiser classes were a mixture of age groups which led to competitive racing with mixed results. The younger class was primarily led by Jason Clarke who took the overall win from Chris Barter in second. Riding two classes Oliver Cutmore came in third with Lee Golder in fourth. The older class of cruiser riders saw Stu Dixon taking an excellent win and was unbeaten all day.
