Hello my Braintree, brothern (And sisters as they case maybe)

I've got a problem that I know you guys can help me with. For the second round in a row, the gate malfunctioned at the 4X series in Fontana.

With out a gate, they do a "rubberband" start. There's nothing to rest the front tire on to get that snappy gate start. It's just, "OK...GO!" and we're off.

Any tips from the top BMX guys and gals on how a dude like me can practice some power starts...when there is no gate?

!

Bob

You need to make yourself one of these:

Copied the idea from Rany Stumfhausers "Stumpy Gate" but these days you can buy a one or two man air-ram gate but this is a cheap alternative. If you want it 'random' get a mate to kick down the retaining bar rather than draw back to release it. Humps

Practice balancing (trials stylee) just on the flat or facing down a slope with the brakes on so that youve got both feet on the pedals in the normal gate start way, then your up and ready for the snap.
Id love to give some advice on reaction time but judging by my gates lately Id be speaking out of turn. Embarassed
