Regional Race Report
Round 10 – Peterborough

The penultimate round of the East Anglia BMX Summer Series took place at Peterborough at the weekend and 40 riders from Braintree were riding for those last minute points to boost their regional rankings.
 
Braintree saw two novice riders making their debut today and Luke Mayes in the 8 – 10 year old group was completely unbeaten throughout the racing crossing the line in first place, with Jacob Thomas not far behind in fourth.  In the slightly older group High Mizen finished fifth overall.
 
The youngest age group of the six and under class was dominated by Luke Shriever who was completely unbeaten all day.  In the expert sevens Joe Read-Millard, Tom Stokes and Sydney Allen were chopping and changing positions throughout racing and at final time it was Joe Read-Millard who crossed the line ahead of the others in second, with Tom Stokes in third and Sydney Allen in fourth.  Further down the pack was Evan Hayward who finished second in the B final.  
 
In the expert eight grand prix class Charlie O Grady shot out of the gate like a rocket and in doing so finished second overall with Oliver Rowe not far behind in fourth and Jake Newton in eighth.  The expert tens were dominated by Braintree riders in the shape of George Moret who led the way over the finish line and was completely unbeaten all day.  On his tail was Shane Redgewell with consistent seconds all day and Joshua Legrove who finished third following an earlier crash, earning himself a coveted ‘Rider of the day’ trophy.  A little further back was Evan Tulloch who finished seventh.  
 
Jedd Hurst and Jonathan Boreham rode in the expert eleven grand prix class with Jedd finishing third and Jonathan in fourth.  The expert twelve, also grand prix, saw four wins for Lee Golder with Shane Pavitt on his tail with consistent seconds.  The expert thirteens were dominated by Taylor Andrews finishing easily in first place and Daniel Killingback who crossed the line in fifth.  
 
The expert fourteens and fifteens rode together and the class was won with style by Chris Potter from Braintree.  Dexter Addington crossed the line in fourth with fourteen year old Connah Wilson on his tail in fifth.  The small grand prix class of sixteens saw Oliver Cutmore finishing second overall and in the large and competitive nineteen plus group Tim Machin had his work cut out but made the B final where he finished fifth.  
 
The masters of the sport saw Coach Jools Allen riding expertly in between providing a very entertaining commentary!  He took a win in one of his motos and finished second overall.  Mark Read-Millard and Gavin Stokes were chasing each other all day with Mark taking the fifth and Gavin the sixth.  Steve Hurst, taking it very easily following a return from injury, coasted around finishing eighth.  
 
Natalie Miller and Bethany Shriever were doing it for the girls in their combined class of 13 – 15 girls with Natalie crossing the line in fourth and Beth close on her back wheel in fifth.  Dee Williams took part in the ladies class, riding with the male cruiser 30 – 39 year olds, and finished eighth.
 
On to the cruiser classes and the youngest of those was made entirely of Braintree riders.  Jason Clarke dominated this class and remained unbeaten all day.  Lee East was close behind and finished second overall with Oliver Cutmore in third, James Knight in fourth and Ryan East from the 13 – 15 class in fifth.  
 
The cruiser 30 – 39 class saw the Dads competing and ahead of them was Paul Sorrell who finished fourth overall and Clive Hayward in sixth.  
 
The final round of the regional series is at Royston in three weeks time, just before the British Championships at Cheddar on 20th September.  Braintree BMX Club continue to race on Wednesday evenings until the end of August and will then be running practice sessions until the British Championships.  For more information visit www.braintreebmx.co.uk. ​
