Last Sunday saw Braintree Bullets BMX Club play host to the first round of the East Anglian Winter Regional Series.
Seventy-four riders from nine different clubs, including thirty-one from Braintree, faced harsh rain and a muddy track to do battle for the coveted East Anglian Championship title. Formula racing was the order of the day with Formula Six for the Seven and unders through to Formula One for the Nineteen and overs.
Formula six kicked off the proceedings. Brandon Dixon unfortunately didn’t make the 8 rider final but the three locals in the final were Braintrees finest. Tom Stokes worked hard to take the second spot, Sydney Allen battled all the way to take third place on the line, and Luke Shreiver in his first regional final took a well deserved fifth place.
In Formula five for eight to nine year olds, Braintree had four out of thirteen riders. Jake Newton and Jacob Thomas fought all day to take third and fourth in the B final respectively. The A final saw Charlie O’Grady take third and a win for Josh Peters.
The 10 and eleven year olds do battle in Formula four where Braintree had seven out of the ten competing riders. The B final saw Jay Vora in second. Braintree riders dominated the A final where Shane Redgewell, George Moret, Jedd Hurst and Jonatham Boreham took first to fourth. Bethany Shreiver worked hard against the boys to finish sixth and Evan Tulloch rounded off the day in eighth.
Five out of the ten riders in the Formula three for twelve to fourteen year olds were Braintree riders. Adam Bennett finished second in the B final. Connah Wilson stole the show with the win, Lee Golder took third with Shane Pavitt close behind in fourth. Kelsey Dixon, one of only three girls competing for Braintree took a fantastic eighth.
The smallest class of the day was Formula two with only seven fifteen to eighteen year old riders competing. This didn’t stop the action though as five of those riders were from The Bullets. Natalie Miller took sixth in a tough race where Braintree had another winner in the shape of Toby Bearne. James Knight was third, Olly Cutmore was fouth with Dexter Addington chasing him down for fifth place.
The biggest class of the day was the Formula one class with twenty-one riders. These nineteen and overs had semi finals along with the four heat races and final. The competition at this level was fierce and Braintree riders shone. Unfortunately Reiss Harper had to pull out at the semi final stage due to illness and Paul Shreiver was unable to compete in the C final at his first ever race meeting. Steve Hurst, recently crowned Braintrees most dedicated rider took sixth in the B final with Paul Dixon close behind in seventh. The A final in this class was where the action was and Braintree had three out of the eight. James Goodwin skimmed across the mud for the win, William Elsey smoothed his way to third and Gavin Stokes put everything in for a cracking fourth place.
A final mention goes to Dan and Tony Wonfor who first competed for Braintree in 1984. These guys took first and second in the Old Skool class.
Our thanks go to all those who attended the meeting. The next race at our Deanery Hill track is our first club series race on Sunday 2nd November
